Summary

Editor-founder behind Tian2 (田二), an editorial education publisher. I coach high-school students through the world's most demanding science competitions and research programs, then publish the books, worked solutions, and essays that make hard ideas reachable — a library of competition playbooks, AP study guides, and a shelf of typeset physics, astronomy, and mathematics solution volumes, all set in one design system of cream and ink. Bilingual (EN/ZH).

Roles

Founder & Editor-in-Chief Tian2 Editions · 田二
Editorial education publisher — tian-2.com

Direct the brand, design system, and editorial standard across competitions, books, AP, and programs; commission, typeset, and publish every volume.

STEM Research Mentor & Competition Coach ISEF · STS · Yau · JIC · Olympiads · EPQ

Guide original student research from first question to finished paper, and prepare students for the hardest STEM contests to the standard real review and judging demand.

Competition Judge & Problem Author ISEF · Conrad · PUPC

Regeneron ISEF Grand Award Judge (Physics & Astronomy); Conrad Challenge Grand Judge; Princeton University Physics Competition (PUPC) Problem Creator. Mentor across Physics Bowl, British Physics Olympiad, S.-T. Yau Award, MCM, and IYPT.

Author & Typesetter Solution Volumes

Write and typeset fully worked solution books in physics, astronomy, and mathematics — original analysis, set like prose.

Education

Ph.D., Electrical & Computer Engineering 2012 – 2019
Cornell University, College of Engineering — Ithaca, New York
B.A., Physics & Computer Science 2008 – 2012
University of Virginia, College of Arts & Sciences — Charlottesville, Virginia

Research Experience

Simulation of Plasma Experiments Cornell · 2014 – 2019
Plasma Physics Laboratory, Cornell University

Built and ran simulation models of gas-puff Z-pinch phenomena; developed and maintained PERSEUS, a high-precision simulation code, synthesizing experimental and simulation data in collaboration with Princeton University and Imperial College London.

Saha Ionization Model Correction in Z-pinch Plasma Sandia · 2016 – 2017
Sandia National Laboratories

Investigated the interplay of radiation and ionization in gas-injection Z-pinch using Mach2 and Paraview; derived a compilable correction to the Saha ionization model and validated it against the original model and empirical results.

Novel Method of MgB₂ Fabrication Cornell · 2012 – 2014
Accelerator Laboratory, Cornell University

Devised a simplified fabrication method for superconducting MgB₂ accelerator-cavity coatings; synthesized small-area MgB₂ and verified its superconducting transition.

Simulation of APS X-ray Detector Argonne · 2010 – 2011
Argonne National Laboratory

Simulated electron-detector operation within the Advanced Photon Source (APS), measuring energy profiles and tuning the simulation against actual detector measurements.
